Structural Characterization

  • Nano particle sizing systems (in liquid)—photon correlation spectroscopy (NICOMP particle sizing systems, Santa Barbara, CA)
  • SEM, TEM, AFM, e-beam lithography
  • LEO 982 Field emission scanning electron microscope with Gatan Alto 2500 Cryostage and cryoprep chamber and Oxford energy dispersive X-ray analyzer
  • Philips/FEI Technai 20 (200 kV) TEM with Oxford energy dispersive X-ray analyzer, Tietz 2K x 2K slow scan CCD, Gatan cryotransfer system and Gatan double-tilt furnace stage
  • Leica SP2 Confocal Scanning Laser Microscope with multiphoton capabilities (Coherent Verdi 5.0W and a Mira 900-F Ti:Sapphire femtosecond lasers)
  • Edwards turbo-pumped high vacuum evaporator with thickness monitor
  • Physical property measurement system
  • Contact angle measurement system
  • Laser desorption time-of-flight mass spectrometer for materials analysis.

Optical Characterization

  • Spectra Physics Q-switched Nd:YAG laser (10 ns, 10 Hz;)
  • Continuum Nano/Pico Q-switched/mode-locked Nd:YAG laser (10 ns, 10 Hz, & 100 ps, 10 Hz) with associated second and third harmonic generation crystals and tunable dye lasers
  • Spectra Physics CW mode-locked Nd:YAG laser (100 ps, 80 MHz) with synchronously pumped cavity dumped dye laser
  • Ultrafast laser system (Spectra Physics, Tsunami, 70 fs, 80 MHz)
  • Two CO2-pumped FIR molecular gas lasers
  • SPEX 0.85m double and 0.3 m single monochromator
  • A variety of low noise and MCP photomultiplier tubes
  • Digital oscilloscopes (0.5 GHz HP and Tektronix)
  • Time-correlated photon counting
  • Multiple cryostats and two closed cycle refrigerator systems with optical access
